Protect PDF with a password
Lock a PDF with a password before you send it. Nothing uploaded.
Anyone who opens the PDF will need this password. Keep it somewhere safe: nobody, including us, can get it back for you.
How it works
- Pick your files.Pick one or more PDFs.
- Your phone does the work.Choose a password. Your phone encrypts the file.
- Save the result.Save the locked PDF.
Strong encryption, on your device
The PDF is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest standard PDF encryption, which every modern PDF reader can open. Anyone who opens the file needs the password.
You can also choose whether people with the password may print it or copy its text. Readers that respect these settings (most do) will follow them.
Send the password a different way from the file: if the PDF goes by email, share the password by text message or phone call.
Because the encryption happens on your phone, the password and the document never reach a server. Not ours, not anyone’s.
Questions
What if I forget the password?
Nobody can recover it, including us: we never see it. Keep the unprotected original, or store the password somewhere safe.
How strong is the protection?
AES-256 with a good password is not practical to break. A short or common password is the weak point: use at least 10 characters, or a few unrelated words.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is encrypted in your browser, and it works in airplane mode.
