PDF to PDF/A
Make an archive-ready PDF/A file. Nothing uploaded.
Makes a PDF/A-2b file for archiving: fonts and colors are saved inside it, and anything that plays or runs (scripts, sounds, attachments) is taken out. Text stays text. The rare page that can’t be kept as it is gets saved as a sharp picture with its text still searchable.

What PDF/A is
PDF/A is the version of PDF made for keeping. A PDF/A file carries everything needed to show it the same way in twenty years: its fonts, a fixed meaning for its colors, and a description of itself. Courts, archives, universities and many government portals ask for it.
What changes in your file
- Fonts the file only names (like Helvetica, Times or Courier) are saved inside it, using free fonts with exactly the same letter widths, so nothing moves.
- Colors are tied to standard sRGB, and print colors (CMYK) to a matching profile, so they look the same everywhere.
- Anything that plays or runs is taken out: scripts, sounds, videos and attached files. Links to web pages stay.
- The title and author are kept, written the way PDF/A asks.
Text stays real text you can search and copy. If a page uses something PDF/A can’t hold (a font that isn’t in the file and has no stand-in, for example), that one page is saved as a sharp picture with its text kept underneath, still searchable. You’ll be told when that happens.
Which kind of PDF/A
You get PDF/A-2b, the level most portals ask for when they say “PDF/A”. The “b” means the file will always look the same; it doesn’t add the extra tagging for screen readers that the “a” level needs. During development every result is checked with veraPDF, the reference PDF/A checker, and you can check yours with it too.
Questions
Will my PDF look different?
No. The pages look the same. In the rare case a page is saved as a picture, it is drawn at about 200 dpi, which reads and prints cleanly.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
Yes, if you know the password. PDF/A doesn’t allow passwords, so the PDF/A file won’t have one.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and it works in airplane mode.
